Troisième édition, beaucoup plus étendue, après les deux ébauches sur le même sujet en 1674 et 1676.
L’auteur soutient que la polygamie est un commandement de Dieu pour la diffusion providentielle du peuple des croyants. Il s’oppose aux anti-polygames de toutes les nations du monde.
Il erra en Europe sans emploi, mourut dans la misère, toujours célibataire…
RELIURE AUX ARMES de Gabriel-Bernard de Rieux (1687-1745), président à la chambre des comptes de Paris
Superbe reliure de l’époque plein veau fauve moucheté, dos à 5 nerfs très richement orné de fleurons dorés et où le titre est frappé or sur une pièce de titre en maroquin grenat, triple filet doré en encadrement des plats, filet doré sur les coupes, tranches rouges, texte sur double colonne. Plats ornés d’un blason ovale doré sommé d’une couronne royale, renfermant un écu central chargé d’une ancre. L’écu est soutenu par deux lévriers affrontés, dressés sur leurs pattes arrière, le tout reposant sur un riche décor de rinceaux et volutes.
Fines taches sur le cuir, mors, coins et coiffes habilement restaurés, quelques rousseurs. Bon état général
À la fin de l’exemplaire ont été reliés sept feuillets d’un texte de Martin Luther (1483-1546), condamnant vivement le célibat forcé des prêtres.
PROVENANCES : deux étiquettes d’ex-libris aux armes de Louis-Alexandre Gitton du Plessy et de Jules-Édouard Potier de La Morandière, étiquette d’ex-libris de Josy Mazodier, ex-libris manuscrit de « A. Breton », et ex-bibliotheca « Chaullard ».
Bel et rare exemplaire.

Third edition, much more extensive, following two drafts on the same subject in 1674 and 1676.
The author argues that polygamy is a commandment from God for the providential spread of the faithful. He opposes anti-polygamists from all nations of the world.
He wandered around Europe without a job, died in poverty, still single…
BINDING WITH COATS OF ARMS of Gabriel-Bernard de Rieux (1687-1745), president of the Paris Chamber of Accounts
Superb contemporary binding in full speckled fawn calfskin, spine with 5 ribs richly decorated with gilt fleurons and the title stamped in gold on a garnet morocco title label, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt fillet on the edges, red edges, text in double columns. Covers decorated with an oval gold coat of arms surmounted by a royal crown, containing a central shield bearing an anchor. The shield is supported by two greyhounds facing each other, standing on their hind legs, all resting on a rich decoration of foliage and scrolls.
Fine stains on the leather, mouthpiece, corners, and caps skillfully restored, some foxing. Good overall condition.
At the end of the copy, seven pages of a text by Martin Luther (1483-1546) have been bound, strongly condemning the enforced celibacy of priests.
PROVENANCE: two bookplate labels bearing the coats of arms of Louis-Alexandre Gitton du Plessy and Jules-Édouard Potier de La Morandière, a bookplate label belonging to Josy Mazodier, a handwritten bookplate belonging to “A. Breton,” and an ex-bibliotheca label belonging to “Chaullard.”
